Chile and Thailand
Diplomatic relations were established in 1962. In 1981 Chile opened an Embassy in Bangkok and Thailand
opened its Embassy in Santiago in 1994.
Diplomatic links has been marked by a fluid political and economic cooperation, although been situated
in the opposite side of the globe. Both countries are likeminded in many areas and face similar
challenges in terms of development. Have worked closely in multilateral levels and transpacific organizations.
Among other proposals, both countries supported "The 4 Nations initiative on Governance and Management
of the UN Secretariat".
FTA in the Scope
A Joint Feasibility Study was concluded in 2006. FTA negotiations are expected to be launched by
the end of 2008.
